Day 18 Christmas Countdown - DIY Festive Candle

It's official I am a self confessed candle addict. I could just fill me whole house with them. They're so relaxing and just fill any room with such a warm hue. So I thought why not create my own candles with some lovely festive scents.

Ingredients:
-Wax flakes
-Cocktail sticks
-Votives
-Candle wicks
-Glue dots
-Essential oils
-Clothes pegs
-Saucepan
-Candle colouring if you would like

Method:
-Prepare your votives by popping a dot of glue on the bottom of the metal tabs of the wicks, place inside your votive and leave to set/dry. Place the cocktail stick across the top of the votive and then peg the top of the wick to the cocktail stick, this is to ensure the wick stays centred when you add the wax.
-Fill your votive with the wax pellets to measure how much you need then pour into a saucepan over a low heat. Dissolve the wax over the heat whilst stirring constantly. Don't let them simmer/boil.
-Once all the wax is melted take the saucepan off the heat and leave to cool slightly. When the wax has cooled just slightly and is clear in colour add the essential oil scent of your choice, I used orange spice clove, cinnamon vanilla and gingerbread kisses. I added around 5 drops, this gave just a nice subtle scent without being overpowering.
-Once the essential oil is fully combined into the wax by stirring, pour into your votives. When pouring the wax into the votive just tip it slightly to avoid getting any air bubbles. Be sure to leave a little gap from the top of your votive.
-Leave the wax to set completely, this could take anywhere between 1 hour - 8 hours depending on the size of your candle.
-Light it up and enjoy!

I used the Kirstie Allsopp Candle Making Kit for this and followed the instructions that came with that, they were super easy to follow and the kit is really quite reasonably priced as everything was included apart from the essential oils and votives.
